How to make Sayur Lodeh

.200 ml coconut milk (1 packet)

.200 ml of water

.300 g of cabbage (cut into 2 inch square pieces)

.100 g of french beans (cut into 2 inch long pieces)

.1 and a half carrots (cut into 2 inch long pieces)

.100 grams of tau kwa

.A quarter teaspoon of salt

.A quarter teaspoon of pepper

.A quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder

Let us now discuss the cooking process for your Sayur Lodeh.

The Cooking Process

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan and sauté onion and lemongrass for 1 minute till the onion softens, then add the blue ginger/galangal paste, garlic paste and sambal paste and sauté. After that add water and bring to a boil.
  2. Once the water starts boiling add your turmeric powder alongside all the prepared vegetables and tau kwa and bring everything to a boil again. Next add in coconut milk and slowly stir your mixture. After that, season your Sayur Lodeh mixture with salt and pepper.
  3. Let your Sayur Lodeh gravy simmer on low heat until your carrots are cooked. 
  4. Serve your Sayur Lodeh with lontong rice cakes or any kind of cooked rice.
