How to make Char Kway Teow

Have you always wanted to learn how to make Char Kway Teow but did not know how? Well you have come to the right place as we’ve got a recipe for you to try out! Are you ready? Great then without further ado let us begin.

Ingredients

Let us first get you acquainted with the ingredients that you will need.

.2 tablespoons of vegetable oil or pork lard oil

.1 tablespoon of minced garlic 

.1 tablespoon of crispy pork lard cubes

.1 egg (beaten)70 grams of fish cakes (sliced)

.50 grams of cockles

.Half of a chinese sausage (sliced)

.70 grams of sawi (chye sim) leaves

.50 grams of bean sprouts 

.150 grams of kway teow noodles

.50 grams of yellow noodles

.1 teaspoon of sambal chilli (cooked)

.Half a teaspoon of fish sauce

.Half a tablespoon of dark soya sauce

.2 tablespoons of sweet soya sauce

.1 tablespoon of water

Preparation Process

Let us now discuss how to prepare your Char Kway Teow dish.

  1. First add 1 and a half tablespoons of vegetable oil or pork lard oil into a large wok for easy stir frying. Add minced garlic and fry at high heat until fragrant. Then add bean sprouts, yellow noodles and kway teow noodles and stir until well seasoned. After that push the noodles to one side in your wok, put in some oil and add your beaten egg, scramble your egg and combine your egg and noodles together after that.
  2. Lower the heat and add your fish sauce, dark soya sauce, sweet soya sauce, sambal chilli and stir evenly.
  3. Add the rest of your ingredients such as the sawi leaves, chinese sausage, fish cake and cockles and stir everything well for half a minute. 
  4. Serve your Char Kway Teow garnished with pork lard cubes if you wish.

Another Option for those who do not eat pork or cockles

If you do not wish to use any pork, cockles or Chinese sausage when making your Char Kway Teow you can replace them with prawns, sliced squid pieces and Anchovy/Ikan Bilis stock and follow the recipe mentioned above.
